MY MUSIC

After the incredible national chart success of his first two singles ‘Dirt Kids’ and ‘Dance On’, Tony Smith continues to bring us songs full of Australian colour and characters with his latest release ‘The Ghost Of This Guitar’ – this one inspired by the great Slim Dusty. Taken from his forthcoming album ‘Stir The Embers’, it’s a rollicking country tune that captures the true Australian country spirit in the style of Henry Lawson.

“When I was young Dad used to play Slim Dusty every night while he had a beer on the verandah and one song in particular was a favourite of mine “Where Country Is” a song about an old ringer sitting outside the Birdsville hotel singing songs about Australia. I wrote this song as an ode to the old ringer and his cracked and battered Gibson guitar” Tony Smith

‘The Ghost Of This Guitar’ is sure to be another hit with country radio as Tony treads the well-worn path of Australian country pioneers like Slim Dusty and John Williamson with a style that is truly his own.

Tony Smith follows up the success of his single ‘Dance On’ which charted Nationally around Australia peaking at #15 on the Country Songs Top 40 and #8 on the Tasmanian Top 40, with a new lively single called ‘Dirt Kids’ from his upcoming ‘Stir The Embers’ album release, due for 2021.

‘Dirt Kids’ is an uptempo bluegrass-style song all about kids living on the land. In Tony’s own words -  " On most farms, there is one, two or more of these little critters to be found, kids who want to take over the world one farm chore at a time. Covered in dirt from daylight to dusk, the dirt kids are why we get up every morning.”

‘Dirt Kids’ is sure to make you smile and ensure Tony Smith continues to have hits across the country leading up to his new album release in Tamworth 2021.

Tony Smith’s return to country music is a welcome one.

With songs that echo the spirit of John Williamson, Tony delivers the story of his life and the people around him in songs he crafts himself. His return comes with the new single ‘Dance On’.

“I was working in W.A driving trucks when this gem popped into my head on a long trip from Newman to Cape Preston “They Danced Off Into Their Lives”  rattled around in my head for hours and gradually became a song about the longevity of true love.” Tony Smith

Tony Smith has never truly left music with James Blundell recording his song “Shearer” on his Portrait Of A Man CD and more recently being part of the ABC series ‘The Recording Studio’ where he recorded a tribute to his father with Golden Guitar winning producer Matt Fell.

With a new album due for release at the Tamworth Festival in 2021,

‘Dance On’ is a great sample of the rich tapestry of songs to come, and a most welcome return.
